As I anxiously await my third season of golf, I feel like I am ready to take the leap and Break 100. However, I have one roadblock that stands in the way of sure-fire improvement: Winter.
I live in Chicago and living where I do in the upper Midwest does not translate to a smooth, robust improvement curve. It acts more like the stock market graphs you see with seasonal upswings followed by valley-like lows. You see, we only really have 5 or 6 months of weather that is warm enough to allow a full game of golf.
To my way of thinking this means that I am at a significant disadvantage when it comes to honing my golf game to make it to my full potential. For every 12 months of real time play, a person in living near the Gulf coast will have had the opportunity to play 24 months. This year however, I am ready to ensure that I am improving my game and consistency.
So, I have in the process of improving my game:
1. Developed my own beginner golf tips website at http://yourbestgolftonight.com to record all of my best “golf swing” discoveries;
2. Read even more golf e-books to help me learn how to improve for less money;
3. Promised to practice at least once a week to ensure that my ball striking consistency doesn’t go away.
So I went to Google and looked for the term ‘golf domes in Cook County’. I determined that there are about three or so located in Cook County with the closest being about 10 miles away. Now who has the competitive advantage, huh? Take that!
Anyhow, the best beginner golf tips that made sense to me and that I believe really helped me improve my game say that anytime you practice hitting golf balls at a driving range, you should always have a target in mind.
This is tricky given that most golf domes are not much longer than 100 yards in length. One of the domes I have visited has sort of solved that problem, especially when you swing the longest clubs in your golf bag.
White Pines Golf Dome in Bensenville IL has a very cool setup in that they have bulls-eye targets at different heights along the back wall as well as simulated greens and obstacles. It doesn’t hurt that White Pines is going to be a balmy 72 degrees on our worst winter days, either! Fantastic!
If I am going to meet my goal of consistently playing in the 90’s this summer, I know that I have to not only maintain my game during the off season but I also have to markedly improve in a few key areas. I love the fact that I live near places that will allow me to get the practice that I need for cheap with relative comfort!
Yeah, I’ll definitely take that instead of wearing a hole in my living room carpeting anyday.
